You can use Acronis Cloner which is a bootable cd, to clone your current hard drive and all of its contents to the new hdd, this includes windows, activated and everything. Infact the only thing you may have to do after cloning is open disk management and resize the partition on the new hdd to fit (if the new hdd is a larger size than the old one) Acronis cloning is literally three or four clicks. Just take note of the model numbers of both drives, old and new,and take note as to which is which, then plug in both hard drives to internal sata as well as power, insert the acronis bootable cd, restart the pc and boot to the disk, then just clone. Select the old drive as the source and the new one as destination, and hit start. And some amount of time later all you need to do is take the new one and install it in the place of the old one and start your computer normally. Then resize the partition of the new hdd if its bigger than the old one.
Youre all done! But if you just want the key you can find it in the bios or in the windows registry. Most the time large manufactures wont have induvidual keys as they are hard coded to the board (in SOME cases) just in volume licensing environments. So if I nstall a new HDD I think I might be able to get to the BIOS screen however not sure where I would find the license key in BIOS? I found a place on the windows site where I can get the ISO however the only other computer I have is vista however microsoft's site does not allow me to download a windows 8 iso if I'm running vista.not sure why that would matter in any case I'm still trying to figure out if I install the hdard drive how do I load the OS and where is the key? I was told by a local pc repair shop that the serial number would be registered on Microsoft's site so when I go online the system will automatically know.
Appreciate some help specific to my situation and how to get the system back n runing.
